It’s not about creating
the perfect action.

I don’t believe every bowler should look the same.

Throughout my career, I’ve seen successful bowlers do things in completely different ways. What matters is understanding your own action, what makes you effective and whether your movements allow you to consistently produce the ball you’re trying to bowl.

That’s how I coach.

I’ll look at the whole picture: your action, run-up, rhythm, pace, accuracy and what you’re trying to achieve as a bowler.

If something needs changing, there needs to be a reason for changing it.

Sometimes that means technical work. Sometimes it’s tactical. Sometimes it’s simply helping a bowler understand what they already do well and getting them to trust it.

Coaching that has to work in the middle

There’s a big difference between making something look good in a net and making it work in a game.

My coaching is built around helping players understand why we’re working on something and how it can make them better when it matters. That could mean finding more pace, improving consistency, developing a stronger action, learning to move the ball, building better plans against batters or understanding how to bowl in different situations.

The technical work matters.

But ultimately, you’ve still got to get a batter out.
Barker Elite Academy

Develop the bowler, not just the action.

Fast bowling changes throughout a season. What a bowler needs in January isn’t necessarily what they need in June. That’s why the programme follows the demands of the cricket calendar.

Build, transfer, perform, finish strong and review. Technical, tactical and physical development with regular assessment along the way.

your cricket

Tell me a little about yourself, where you’re currently playing and what you want to improve. You don’t need to know exactly what type of coaching you need. That’s part of my job.
