Speed
Developing the ability to move quickly and athletically, with physical qualities that can support greater speed into and through the crease.
Fast bowling places huge demands on the body.
Developing pace and becoming a better bowler isn’t only about what happens with a ball in your hand.
Barker Elite offers specialist Strength & Conditioning support from a former professional county cricket Strength & Conditioning Coach with 10 years’ experience working within the professional game.
Players can receive an individual physical development programme built around their body, their bowling and where they are in their development.
Developing the ability to move quickly and athletically, with physical qualities that can support greater speed into and through the crease.
Developing the physical foundations needed to produce and withstand the forces involved in fast bowling.
Developing the ability to produce force quickly and explosively and transfer those qualities into athletic movement.
Developing the flexibility and range of movement needed to move efficiently and access the positions required within the individual's bowling action.
The physical programme shouldn’t sit separately from the cricket. Where appropriate, the bowling and S&C programmes can work alongside each other, allowing us to look at the player as a whole rather than treating technical and physical development as two completely separate things.
If we’re trying to help a bowler become quicker, more powerful or move more effectively through the crease, we need to understand whether the limitation is technical, physical or a combination of both. That allows the bowling coaching and physical development to work towards the same overall purpose.
Better movement. More speed. More power. Better fast bowling.
