1-to-1 fast
bowling.
For bowlers who want detailed individual coaching. Before deciding what we’re going to work on, I want to see the player bowl, understand what they’re trying to achieve and identify where I think I can help.
Sessions can include
- /Bowling action assessment
- /Run-up and rhythm
- /Pace development
- /Accuracy and consistency
- /Swing and seam
- /Crease position and angles
- /Tactical bowling
- /Plans against different batters
- /White-ball skills
- /Red-ball skills
- /Video analysis
Not every bowler needs all of those things. The important part is identifying what you need.
Technical development
Sometimes there is something within an action that’s limiting performance. When that’s the case, we’ll identify it and work backwards from the outcome we want.
I use drills when they have a purpose, but I’m not interested in doing drills simply because they look good.
Whatever we work on eventually has to return to bowling. That’s where we find out whether it’s actually helping.
Tactical bowling
Knowing how to bowl is only part of being a successful bowler. You also need to know what to bowl and why.
We’ll work on reading batters, building overs, creating dismissals, using the crease, setting fields and understanding how plans change across formats.
I’ve bowled in different conditions, against different types of batters and across different stages of matches. That experience helps me explain not only what a bowler can do, but when and why a particular option may be the right one.
Batting & all-rounder development
Although fast bowling is the main focus of Barker Elite, batting coaching is also available. I scored more than 5,500 first-class runs during my career and understand the challenges of developing both disciplines as an all-rounder.
I’ve spent thousands of overs trying to work out how to get batters out. Understanding what a bowler is trying to do to you can make you a much smarter batter.
All-rounder development has to consider how batting, bowling, fielding, physical preparation, recovery and workload fit together.
Coach development & consultancy
Support is also available for clubs, academies and coaches. This can include:
- /Player assessment
- /Fast-bowling programmes
- /Session design
- /Coach development
- /Bowling consultancy
- /Working alongside existing coaching teams
The aim is to work with the existing environment rather than simply coming in and telling people how things should be done.
Not sure what you need?
You don’t need to know exactly what type of coaching you need. That’s part of my job. Tell me about the player, the level and the goal.
